Having been raised in the Judaeo-Christian system of morality within the boundaries of the United States, I have been taught several tenants that are to mold me into an upstanding citizen that contributes to society.
These tenants include that God is a just and merciful male, all people have worth but some are worth more than others, and that hating a group of people based upon stereotypes is wrong but saying that you found Jesus is a way to get out of it. There are other tenants but the first rule is that I can’t talk about it…
What makes me so infuriated with the supposed “plight” of the Palestinian people is that they drive otherwise sensible, moral, and civilized people to believe that genocide is a viable option. I shall explain with a little history.
Let us go back to the beginning, before World War II there had been Jewish immigrants returning to the Land of Canaan which was being ruled by the British Empire, because someone had to draw the short stick. These people had a desire to see a Jewish state reemerge in the area, because of historical ties to the land among other reasons. After WWII, and the atrocities that were committed this drive became even more focused and pronounced.
So we have two groups simultaneously pressing for self-determination and for the British to leave. The Israelis, as they would come to be known, used some terror tactics to drive the Brits out - but also put groups together that would be responsible for the needs of the people, silly things we in the West call “Governments”.
The Palestinians on the other hand must have assumed that Allah and Mohamed, the prophet not the Teddy Bear *wink* would descend from heaven and rule them, because they did not organize anything. Come to think of it, that is the standard criteria for Middle East “governments” today, huh.
So Israel declares Independence and Jews living within the Arab world start disapearing, and their stuff gets claimed by the governments, and Nazi criminals are given asylum if they go to Egypt and Syria, I guess as a good faith gesture.
Fast forward a couple years and we have what we can an interesting turn of events. Since the “Palestinians” still didn’t really have any semblance of leadership or capabilities they were kinda being ruled by the leaders of Jordan, and Syria, and Israel was not even half as large as it is today.
We come to a time now called the “Six Day War”, where the combined might of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria would crush the country of Israel which had only a fraction of the population of their enemy. Well not quite, since Israel launched a preemptive attack on the Egyptian “Air Force” and not wanting to disclose this to their allies had Jordan and Syria attack without the support from the skies, and they were decimated.
It was in this war that the Israelis received the Golan Heights, Sinai Peninsula, West Bank, Gaza and more importantly the Eastern part of Jerusalem. This put the Wailing Wall, last remnant of Solomon’s Temple, back in Jewish hands. Being one of the Holiest sites you can see why they may have been upset at the Arabs using it as a trash heap, although we are supposed to be ashamed that we fire at a Mosque they are using as a fortress.
Lets call it an even two years later, and the Arab Community is seeing what kind of a problem this is going to be. Jordan got a lot of Palestinians and they formed the PLO, and wanted to declare another war on Israel, King Huessein kicked them the hell out cause he didn’t want another war, even though he is a supposed descendant of the Prophet Muhammad some Islamic Fundamentalist killed him.
We now have the attack on Yom Kippur, which is the holiest festival in the Jewish faith, occurring in 1973 by those lovable religiously sensitive Arabs. Initially being caught off guard the Israelis were able to fend off the attack and were even on their way to capture Cairo when a cease fire was implemented.
Then the real fun began as the Palestinians started to feel they got the wrong end of the stick, seeing how they did some of the fighting and thus the losing. So they turned to capturing schools and holding children hostage as a “legitimate” way to get their point across. It was basically like this, “We can’t beat you fairly so we are going to use terror tactics to get what we want, so there.”
So what does this history lesson have to teach us today? That in the short history of Israel they have been the target of aggression, and the land they have gotten was from gaining ground while defending their homes. Palestinians only use their homes to raise suicide bombers.
Even though the world knows the half-hearted attempt of the Bush Administration is a dog and pony show trying to fool stupid people into believing Bush has a vision of transforming the Middle East into Paradise, the Palestinians start their chants of, “Death to Israel! Death to America!” Then wonder why no one cares about their plight.
The open secret is the very DAY there is a Palestinian State it will declare war on Israel, get a beat down and then we are back where we were. That is what is so frustrating about those people, the only way for peace is to have a Palestinian Genocide.
