Not That Kind Of Bi-Partisan

In the immortal words of the great Packers Head Coach Vince Lombarti, “What the hell is going on out there?” It could go down as an era of the most self-serving win at all costs political cutthroats of all time. The GOP has built its foundation on the premise of two things, being white and rich. Well lets be fair, small government is in the mix somewhere, as well as a literal interpretation of the Bible, well the Protestant one, not the true Catholic one. *wink* Used to be something about Constitutional restraints on power, well I am sure we will find out when a Democrat is elected President, what with all the “do as I say, not as I do” GOP grandstanding.

Now it seems if you throw a rock into a GOP meeting you are going to peg a someone in the closet. The closet isn’t always flaming, but where there is smoke…

It would be less frustrating and seemingly less hypocritical if it were Democrats were the ones with members revealing they were homosexual because well, gay rights has been part of the party’s platform. That and not making stupid foreign policy decisions, making doctors learn about evolution, trying to at least appear interested in alternative fuels, and giving kids medical care. You know: girly stuff.

Now I understand that the policy of the United States has been, some people ain’t people and therefore do not get the same rights as everybody else. Indians, Blacks, Irish, Italians, Poles, Mexicans, Indians/Arabs and Homosexuals have all been discriminated against, with varying time spans and the level of violence aimed towards them. It is not something to approve of, but necessary to acknowledge.

What has not been seen within these minority groups is the brazen attempt to better one’s own position by specifically subjugating others like you, to increasing levels of disdain and intentionally using legal methods to legislate this disdain. I mean sure, there is a history of gang affiliation and crime syndicates that prey on their own, but this would not be seen as “legitimate” discrimination. I mean its not like blacks are advocating that they have their rights legally stripped with a Constitutional Amendment. Whereas gay Republicans seem to be.

What appears to have happened is that the Republican Party ranks have a number of Homosexual-Americans within their ranks that are so self-loathing they feel they must punish anyone else with their same sexual persuasion.

No-matter your faith or creed, that is not justifiable. Making others pay for the mistakes, perceived or real, that you have committed is not a moral code anyone would advocate. It is certainly not included in the fabric of our judicial system, where do the crime do the time, has been its mythos.

Our country went through a Civil War, and it was the determination of President Lincoln that the Principles of this country were enumerated by the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution, though vastly important; is nonetheless, merely the attempt to implement the principles listed in the Declaration. For those of you who are Republicans, principles are things that guide your decision making process, and are often based in moral understandings of right and wrong. For example, my principles lead me to believe that FOX NEWS is a hate mongering network more interested in promoting a very narrow minded agenda to maintain the false belief that extremely wealthy people have the same hardships as poor people. That an Ann Coulter is a she-demon spawned from the very bowels of the darkest place in hell.

It is now come to us, same as our forebears, to decide what kind of country we are going to be. Do we hold ourselves to the highest standard of liberty and justice, or do we acknowledge that such attempts are folly and that man as a species will always try to undermine someone else to feel better about themselves? For myself, it is hard to become inspired by,

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that some men, and no women are created equal. That they are endowed by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with alienable rights should anyone attempt to defy him, his teachings, or his followers. Among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. In the Christian God’s name we pray, Amen”

So keep wrapping the flag around your self loathing brethren GOP, just know, we don’t need that kind of Bi-Partisan Leadership.

Funniest things I have read all day. Please make that part of your mission statement. That’s Colbert quality junk.

But how would you tackle this hypothetical. Say you’re a Republican–ie believe that it is the best party on domestic and/or foreign policy decisions overall. And let’s say you are gay. Is it wrong to sacrifice that principle and join a party that seeks to discriminate against you (albeit in a limited way: marriage and benefits, not not so much with jobs (I concede homosexuals as a group have a tougher time with fair labor standards).

An analogy would be with some neo-conservatives who turned away from Democrats on foreign policy questions, giving support to whatever domestic agenda Republicans sprouted. (Others like Norman Podhoretz tried to merge domestic and foreign policy neo-conservatism, but few would subscribe to such philosophical elegance)

Or do you alternatively go to the Democrats and cringe on every other issue than gay marriage?

It’s a tough pickle. Naturally an answer would be a third party, or a moderated Democratic party (which seems its already there, save foreign policy).

While it is the choice of the individual to determine what factors will play into their choice to support a political party, that choice should not be tainted by intellectual dishonesty of those running for office representing that party. If those who were Republican Homosexuals were able to express who they were, without having embarrassing sex scandels in airport bathrooms, then the party might change its philosophical stance towards homosexuality. What is necessary is for the Grand Old Party to decide for itself what their true platform is: Responsible Small Government, Strong National Defense, No Taxes(Though how you can have strong national defense, lead by a small weak government and paid by no taxes escapes me); or does the party still stand for limiting the rights of minorities. Only then can we have an honest open choice between a party that has integrity, and the other that merely says it does.
